SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The Christina Enciso Memorial Scholarship

Christina Enciso photoChristina Enciso began her career with the agency at the age of seventeen as a clerical in the Los Angeles District Office and was later promoted to the Claims Representative position. Chris displayed courage by moving away from her family and expanded her experience by taking a two-year assignment in Baltimore, during which she was promoted. She returned to the San Francisco region in 1972 as a supervisor—one of the first Hispanics in management at the time.

Chris was promoted to manager of the University Village office and later managed the Downey office for 15 years. She transferred to the Norwalk office in 2002 and retired in December 2004.

Chris made many significant contributions to the agency and SF-HAAC during her career.  She mentored and encouraged several employees into successful careers in management.  She was a charter member of the pioneering group of 15 managers that determined a need for improvement in our service to non-English speaking customers which resulted in the creation of our organization, SF-HAAC. Chris was a true pioneer and served several terms as HAAC Treasurer and Executive Vice President.

Chris strongly believed in our mission of advocating for equality in serving the Hispanic community at large and adequate representation of Hispanics in all levels of the Agency.  I urge you all to honor her legacy by continuing our work to improve services to the community.
